Leicester number eight Thomas Waldrom has delighted Tigers fans by signing a new contract with the Aviva Premiership club.
The New Zealand-born loose forward was the supporters’ player of the year in 2010/11 after joining the side from the Crusaders 18 months ago.
He made his 50th appearance for Leicester in the LV= Cup win over Newcastle in February, scoring a try to secure the team’s place in the semi-finals.
The 28-year-old also joined the England squad at the World Cup in New Zealand as an injury replacement last year.
“I’ve really enjoyed my rugby with Leicester over the last two seasons and I am very happy to agree a new contract,” he said.
“I have a lot to thank the club for because I would not have got where I am now without Leicester Tigers.
“Everyone at the club has helped me and my family settle in the area, and the supporters have been great to me.
“Now I’m looking forward to the rest of the season and we just want to make the most of our opportunities.”
Waldrom has quickly established himself a favourite among the fans, going on to seven tries in 52 appearances.
“Thomas has fitted in very well here. We knew he was a very good player when we first brought him to the club and he has developed well,” said Tigers director of rugby Richard Cockerill.
“He brings some different qualities to the back-row combinations in the squad and we think he’ll continue to get better and better.
“We’re looking forward to seeing him continue to play an important role within the squad and I’m delighted he has agreed to stay.”
