Munster have confirmed that coach Tony McGahan will return to Australia to work with the Wallabies at the end of the season.
McGahan, who replaced Declan Kidney when he (Kidney) became Ireland coach, initially started out as the Irish province’s defence coach when he arrived in 2005.
He has turned down Munster’s offer of a one-year extension with the option of a further year as the lure of working with his national team appears to be too strong.
The 37-year-old Queenslander is set to take up the role of defence coach with Australia with his appointment set to be confirmed on Friday.
McGahan privately informed the playing staff of his decision to quit the province earlier this week.
