Tottenham have swooped for New Zealand international Ryan Nelsen following the defender’s departure from Blackburn.
Spurs had been keen to bolster their defensive options due to William Gallas’ injury and the loan departure of Sebastien Bassong to Wolves, although the north Londoners looked to have missed their chance after the transfer window shut at 23:00 GMT on Tuesday.
However, Rovers had agreed to release the veteran centre-back from his contract at Ewood Park, allowing the White Hart Lane outfit to register him as a free agent.
“We are delighted to announce the signing of defender Ryan Nelsen,” read a statement on the club’s official website.
“The New Zealand international joins us from Blackburn Rovers where he spent seven years and made over 200 appearances.”
Nelsen will be hoping to come straight into the thick of things for Spurs and will be pushing for a place in Harry Redknapp’s squad for the trip to Liverpool on Monday.
