Manchester City moved three points clear at the top of the Premier League with a convincing 3-0 win over Fulham at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday evening.
Roberto Mancini’s side controlled the game from start to finish and showed no signs of lacking in confidence following their turn in form since the start of the New Year.
Snow tumbled down throughout the 90 minutes, but it was a warming performance for City fans.
The hosts started the game brightly and Edin Dzeko could have had two goals before Sergio Aguero opened the scoring from the penalty spot after ten minutes.
It was an afternoon to forget for Chris Baird as he brought down Adam Johnson for a penalty before deflecting the England midfielder’s shot into his own net on the half-hour mark.
Simon Davies was the only player to test Joe Hart in the first-half while Damien Duff saw his side-footed effort graze the outside of the post with the score-line still at 1-0.
City’s lead could have been stretched even further before the interval as Mark Schwarzer denied Aguero his second of the game with a fine save.
Fulham saw more of the ball after the break but they struggled to find a way through the City defence as ground staff took to the pitch to clear snow off the line markings in increasingly poor conditions.
The visitors never looked like getting back into the game and Dzeko put the game beyond doubt after 73 minutes when he rounded off a superb Aguero assist with a simple finish from six yards.
The Cottagers almost clawed one back late on as Dzeko’s attempted clearance from a corner came back off his own post before John Arne Riise forced a stop out of Hart.
