Kolarov: It’s a two-way battle

Aleksandar Kolarov believes Manchester City’s Premier League battle with rivals Manchester United will go down the wire.

City, who are looking to win their first league title since 1968, currently have a narrow two-point advantage over their neighbours while Tottenham Hotspur are a further five points behind the Red Devils.

However, defender Kolarov says it is between the two Manchester clubs for the title and feels the derby at the Etihad Stadium at the end of April may well decide where the silverware ends up.

“We are in a two-way battle with United at the top of the Premiership and I think it will be like that until the very end,” he told Serbian website B92.

“Of course, that raises the tension so every game in every round our two clubs play will be on a high note.

“We are playing well, have a two-point advantage and they (United) are coming to our ground three rounds before the end.

“Maybe that game will be the decisive one, but I think we are the better team and must show that on the pitch.”

City had high hopes of doing well in all four competitions this year, but they have crashed out of the Carling and FA Cups.

Having also been knocked out of the Champions League, the team now have to focus on the Europa League and Premier League.

“At the beginning we played in four competitions, now we play in two. We want to win a trophy in both as that is the target of the club and our surroundings, ” said Kolarov.

“We are on a good run, so we will see what we can do.”
