Harry salutes Saha and Ade

2012-02-12 01:18:58

Manager Harry Redknapp saluted Louis Saha and Emmanuel Adebayor for their role in Tottenham’s 5-0 demolition of visiting Newcastle on Saturday.

New signing Saha bagged a brace in his first start for the club, while Adebayor scored and had a role in all of the goals, including Benoit Assou-Ekotto’s and Niko Kranjcar’s respective efforts.

Victory leaves Spurs five points off Premier League leaders Manchester United, and four short of Manchester City, who visit Aston Villa on Sunday.

“Adebayor and Saha were unplayable in that early period and there was no stopping us after that,” Redknapp said.

“There was some great finishing. I took the chance of playing Saha today.

“Some people questioned why I signed him but I’ve always thought he is a top player. If you can keep him fit, you have a real player on your hands.”

Redknapp, who was cleared of tax evasion this week, added that he remains focused on Spurs despite being linked with the vacant England job following Fabio Capello’s shock resignation.

“Nothing’s happened with the England job. No-one has spoken to me or (chairman) Daniel (Levy) about it,” Redknapp added.

“It wouldn’t be fair to anyone here to think about it. Daniel gave me the job, he brought me to the club when there was a public court case hanging over me.

“I owe him and we’ve been great for each other. At the moment I can’t take my focus off Tottenham.”
