Edwards targets Spartans springboard

2012-02-22 02:14:03

Danny Edwards hopes Worcester City can revive their play-off push at bottom club Blyth Spartans’ expense on the weekend.

The Loyals, who trail Blue Square Bet North leaders Hyde by 20 points, have slipped off the pace recently with three consecutive draws following four straight defeats.

However, Carl Heeley’s ninth-placed charges enjoy a 25-point advantage on their upcoming opponents, leaving Edwards optimistic ahead of Saturday’s clash at St George’s Lane.

“We’ve got some good home games coming up against some of the bottom five teams so hopefully we can get the wins that can get us up back near the play-offs,” the winger told Worcester News.

“Blyth are down at the bottom so you’re looking to those matches to get three points and get back to winning ways and scoring goals.

“January killed us a little bit. We were on a run before then and did feel a little bit down after that but now we’ve gone three unbeaten, hopefully we can get back to winning ways against Blyth.

“That’s the one we’re really looking to get the goals in and then move on from there.”
