Ferguson: Expects more

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson thought his side’s bark was worse than their bite on Thursday, despite their 2-0 Europa League last-32 victory over Ajax.
The Red Devils spent much of the first-half chasing the play at the Amsterdam Arena, although Ashley Young finely found a way through for the visitors just before the hour mark while Javier Hernandez handed United an invaluable second away goal to seal the tie.
However, Ferguson feels the result belies his side’s showing on the European stage.
“The result was better than the performance,” The Scot told The Guardian.
“The first half was disappointing. We found it difficult to get rhythm and speed to our game. Ajax pressed the ball very well and played nice football.
“We had to wake up in the second half because we were making it difficult for ourselves.
“The second half improved and we made some good opportunities. We deserved to win and you can’t complain too much when you win 2-0 away from home.”
United will welcome Ajax to Old Trafford for the second leg on Thursday 23 February.
